Grounding (also called Earthing) is simply putting the body in direct contact with the earth. Grounding connects you to the earth and forms electrical frequencies between your body and the earth.

Evidence suggests that negative-charged free electrons on earth’s surface are responsible for bringing electric energy levels of the human body in line with that of the earth, which in turn promotes health and vitality. I know it may sound crazy, but it’s far from it. Grounding is one of the most natural things you can do. Just as the sun provides us with energy and vitamins, the earth is also a source of energy that contributes to our overall health. The belief is that without direct contact with the earth, positive charge can build in the body and lead to health issues..

I learned about grounding nearly 10 years ago. Recently, I started reading more about it and thought it may help improve my perimenopausal sleep issues—and it has. Grounding is a practice where you can feel the undeniable and immediate effects after only 20-30 minutes. At the end, you will feel better.

According to the Earthing Institute, grounding has remarkable healing powers and many studies have reported numerous positive results such as:

• Improves Sleep
• Eases Anxiety
• Decreases Pain and Inflammation
• Reduces Feelings of Stress
• Improves Mental Focus
• Improves Gastrointestinal Symptoms, PMS, Arthritic Pain
• Relieved Fatigue
• Helps Keep You Present

I know, it all sounds too good to be true, but don’t take my word for it. Put it to the test for yourself and let me know if you feel a difference.

Steps to Grounding:

1. Find a quiet place where you can be alone for 20-30 minutes.

2. Make contact with the earth: Stand, sit, lay down, or walk on the earth in grass, stone, sand, or dirt with bare feet.

3. Notice how you feel at the beginning of the session—and then after 30 minutes.
